GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

Reporting to the Building and Grounds Foreman and Assistant Foreman, this position offers a dynamic opportunity to contribute to the maintenance of County assets. The role involves a diverse range of tasks, from performing basic building maintenance and repairs to maintaining equipment and providing diligent lawn care. Additionally, the position assists with custodial responsibilities as needed, ensuring a clean and well-maintained environment.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 

· Proactively assesses and reports maintenance and custodial needs: Conducts thorough inspections of buildings and grounds to identify areas requiring maintenance or custodial attention reporting these promptly to the supervisor. 

· Maintains and repairs electrical systems: Installs, repairs, and maintains various electrical components within County building, including but not limited to lighting fixtures, switches, and ballasts. 

· Repairs and maintains plumbing fixtures: Addresses and resolves plumbing issues, ensuring fixtures are in proper working order.

· Executes building renovations and carpentry: Performs a range of carpentry tasks, including installing sheetrock, floor and ceiling tiles, windows, and doors, as well as repairing roofing materials, contributing to building renovations and upkeep.

· Paints and refinishes surfaces: Applies paint to interior and exterior surfaces as directed, maintaining a visually appealing environment.

· Performs comprehensive grounds maintenance: Maintains the aesthetic appeal and safety of County grounds through tasks such as mowing and watering, edging, trimming trees and shrubs, spreading mulch, applying herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers, and removing debris.

· Supports custodial operations: Aids with janitorial duties as needed, including stripping and waxing floors, to ensure clean and sanitary facilities.

· Maintains and cares for equipment: Ensures assigned tools and equipment are in optimal condition through routine cleaning and maintenance.

· Responds to inquiries and requests: Receives and addresses inquiries, requests for assistance, and concerns related to areas of responsibility in a timely and professional manner.

· Manages and organizes documentation: Reviews various documents, including policies, procedures, schedules, and work orders, while also preparing and submitting daily work reports and records.

· Utilizes technical resources: Refers to policy and procedure manuals, blueprints, schematics, and equipment manuals to complete tasks accurately and safely.

· Operates and maintains equipment proficiently: Skillfully operates vehicles, mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers, and other equipment. Utilizes meters, floor buffer/waxers, sprayers, hand and power tools, building maintenance and janitorial supplies, lawn care supplies, ladders, and equipment parts, adhering to safety protocols.

· Communicates effectively with stakeholders: Interacts and communicates professionally with supervisors, coworkers, other County staff, and the general public.

· Participates in professional development: Attends meetings and training sessions as needed to continuously enhance job knowledge and skills.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

· Procures necessary supplies and parts.

· Performs other related duties as assigned. 

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

This position requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent, along with six months to one year of experience in general facilities and grounds maintenance. Alternatively, an equivalent combination of training and experience that demonstrates the necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities will be considered. A valid state driver’s license is also required.
