Laurens County is accepting applications for a full-time firefighter. Normal work hours will be a rotating 24 hours on and 48 hours off schedule.
The successful candidate: Under general supervision, drives fire engines to emergency scenes and operates fire apparatus to efficiently and effectively protect the lives and property of those in need of assistance. Work involves providing leadership of volunteer fire fighters; participating in fire suppression, emergency rescue and hazardous materials response operations; maintaining division equipment to ensure readiness for emergency response; assisting with fire prevention activities, and performing related work as required. Reports to the Division Chief.
Minimum Training and Experience
High School Diploma or GED, 21 years of age or older, possession of a valid South Carolina Driver’s License (Class E is preferred) but not required. NFPA Firefighter 2 minimum, Current NREMT certification (preferred or willing to take EMT course within 18 months of hire), Haz-mat Operations, Emergency Vehicle Driver’s Training, Auto Extrication, and Pump Operations 1. $2,000 annual allowance for NREMT certification.
Must have knowledge of computers, and basic computer skills.
NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800 preferred.
Salary: $14.53 per hour
Successful applicant must be willing to acquire other courses as required by the department.
